Independent Plumbing Stores and Bathroom Showrooms Nationwide Unite for a Day of Support and Community Building

Trade Local Day 2024 was a resounding success for The IPG network, reinforcing the vital role of independent plumbing stores and bathroom showrooms across the nation. Held on September 9th, this annual event was more than just a date on the calendar—it became a dynamic celebration of the trade community.

Empowering the Trade Community

Led by The IPG—a membership group of independently owned plumbing stores and bathroom showrooms across the UK—Trade Local Day is a campaign that encourages tradespeople to shop locally and connect with fellow professionals. It showcases the breadth of services, products, and expertise offered by independent businesses while strengthening community ties and local economies.

A Day of Celebration and Community Building

This year, The IPG members embraced the spirit of the day, creating welcoming atmospheres, giveaways, product demonstrations, and competitions, all backed by the best industry brands. The event was met with enthusiasm from members and their customers alike, with many stores experiencing increased footfall and sales.

Nike Lovell, Marketing Director for The IPG, shared the group's commitment to supporting its members: “We are incredibly proud to spotlight our independent members through initiatives like Trade Local Day. Supporting your local independent stores and showrooms isn’t just about convenience or competitive pricing—it’s about nurturing relationships, strengthening local economies and ensuring that the personal, expert service these businesses provide remains accessible to all. When you choose to trade local, you’re investing in the future of your community, your industry and the people who care about getting it right for you.”

Industry Support and Looking Forward

Trade Local Day was elevated by the endorsement of industry leaders such as On The Tools, InstallerSHOW, HIP Magazine and the Heating Installer Awards.

Lee Frimston from Wavin, one of the event’s supporting brands, emphasised the importance of engaging directly with installers and independent store owners: "Independents are a key focus for our business and it was really important for us to support The IPG with Trade Local Day. It’s essential to get opinions from installers and the store owners to produce products that work for them.”

The Success of the Day in Members’ Words

Feedback from participating stores confirmed the events impact, with many members echoing similar sentiments:

“We had an increase in footfall; it felt busier than a typical Monday.”

“It was the best breakfast and trade morning we’ve had since opening the store.”

“Trade Local Day was very successful for us; we had an exceptionally busy morning.”

Supplier Support: A Key to Success

The involvement of suppliers was valuable, with product demonstrations and exclusive offers drawing in customers. Members widely echoed the appreciation for the support they received from The IPG suppliers, with one noting, “They were a great support, supplying bacon for sandwiches and running a well-received demonstration. Their communication with us was excellent.”

Their active involvement not only enhanced the day’s events but also strengthened the strong partnerships that benefit both the group’s members and their customers.

A Special Visit from Mark Millar

Adding to the day’s excitement, The IPG's brand ambassador, Mark Millar, one of television’s most recognised handymen and a familiar face from BBC One’s DIY SOS - visited member stores and joined in the fun. His presence highlighted The IPG’s commitment to partnering with individuals who understand the value and importance of supporting independent businesses. Mark’s dedication to helping the group’s trading partners achieve their goals embodies the spirit of The IPG.

A Nationwide Movement

The success of Trade Local Day reflects the energy and strength of independent businesses in the plumbing and bathroom industry. By supporting IPG members, tradespeople and the public invest in their local economies and foster a stronger sense of community.

With more initiatives planned, the group encourages everyone to continue supporting their local independent stores year-round and look forward to the next annual celebration on September 9th.
